Saga Reddy crowned ‘golfer of the year’

Saga proves that the cream always rises to the top.

IN the first medal competition of 2020, all the 2019 monthly mug winners competed for the honour of being named Golfer of the Year.

Saga Reddy, who twice won the mug the previous year, continued his great form and emerged victorious once again. He was deservedly crowned Golfer of the Year.

Kevesh Seepersad played very well in the B Division and his nett 67 earned him the Halfway Malanda Monthly Mug for January 2020.

We celebrated a bumper festive season at #thefriendliestclub and enjoyed receiving all the wonderful compliments about the condition of our course from visitors and members alike.

It really is a feather in the caps of our small team including active committee members, who put in the time and energy to ensure that we can compete with the bigger clubs along the coast.

Every year we run an annual tournament, the monthly Fourball Alliance.

There are prizes each month including nearest the pins, an overall best team for 2020 and special prizes for teams that manage to maintain the same fourball throughout the year.

Entries are now open with visitors always welcome to join in. Any combination, men and/or women, at all handicap levels are welcome.

To enter your Alliance team costs R200 for the year and the first match takes place on Saturday 29 this year.

If you’d like to play but don’t have an entire team, don’t worry, simply contact Francois or Charmaine in the pro shop on 039 9731042 and they’ll pair you up.

Last Saturday saw the fifth instalment of the Betterball League competition and 43 players braved the stifling humidity, although the scores suggest that the heat didn’t have too much impact on the golf.

In first place were Saga Reddy and Christopher Pillay on 48 points, followed by Jacques Kirstein and Derek Airey on 45 points, counting out Simon van den Bosch and Dave Kemp .

Fourth spot was taken by Tom Naicker and Anel Seepersad on 44 points.

It seems that the youngsters were on song on the holes that mattered, as sharing the jackpot were Damian O’Connell, Christopher Pillay and Kevesh Seepersad.

In addition to a great golfing calendar for 2020, the club regularly hosts social events, including weekly 6-pin Friday afternoon golf and bi-weekly braais.
