Cops after cop in high speed chase

The officer drove through two red traffic lights and failed to stop when instructed to do so.

AN off-duty traffic officer (50), who jumped two red traffic lights in the Port Shepstone central business district last Wednesday night, was arrested by Port Shepstone SAPS after a brief chase.

The man, who was in his private vehicle at the time, refused to stop when instructed to do so, opting to speed off. When arrested, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

“He was taken to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and a blood sample was obtained,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The officer appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Thursday) and the case was postponed, pending blood results.

A case of driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance is being investigated by Port Shepstone police.
