Even though schools were closed for the holidays, a number of children along with parents, friends, family and teachers, pitched up and pitched in.
“It was so good to see that there are still people, especially children, who care about the environment,” said Nigel Eady of Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife.
“Each and every little bit counts, so if something like this is done on a regular basis, the end results would be phenomenal.”
A number of trash bags were filled with rubbish found at the beach, and there were some interesting finds too, such as an old washing machine and even a big tyre.
Both schools are appealing to Scottburgh residents and visitors to please use the bins around town to ensure that there is no rubbish left on the streets which could be carried down to the beach by the wind.
Also, if you visit the beach, be sure to always clean up after yourself to avoid pollution.
