Newsflash: National Task Team ordered to return Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s firearms ‘with immediate effect’

This was the finding of the High Court on September 19 after the weapons were seized last month.

The high court has ruled that the recent seizure of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s firearms was unlawful.

The SAPS National Task Team confiscated the weapons for ballistic testing in August, leading the municipality to approach the court. The National Task Team was  directed to return the firearms with immediate effect. The weapons will be handed back to the municipality this Monday, September 23.

“The municipality had been  exonerated by the court and this decision reaffirms that no-one is above the law. The municipality will always cooperate with law enforcement agencies if they  want to do any investigation but will not allow the abuse of law,” said RNM municipal manager, Max Mbili.
