Snares are a cause for concern

According to the SPCA, they are both cruel and illegal.

Wildlife lovers gathered to seek out snares in the Oslo Beach area recently. The snare hunt was spearheaded by Lower South Coast SPCA manager Stacey Beck.

Ms Beck told the Herald that snare traps, which poachers use to catch a variety of animals, are both a cruel and illegal method of hunting. “Crafted of wire the snare tightens when an animal struggles to escape and causes greater injury. To fight this crime against wildlife the SPCA supports snare removal efforts to locate and remove them from the coast’s terrain,” she said.

“The damage and loss to wildlife that comes with their use is a great cause for concern,” she concluded
