Off the Hook: Promising signs for sards
The sards are reportedly still making their way along the South Coast (having apparently been spotted in Port Edward recently) so fishermen are playing the waiting game.
Mother Nature once again provided absolutely beautiful weather last week for those wanting to get their lines in the water.
There was plenty of activity all along the coast, with some shad and garrick being caught.
Even though the sun was out, deep sea fishing was a little slow because of the cold water.

However, some pretty amazing fish, including soldier and Englishman, did come out on the deeper reefs.
Fishing from the boat Wotalotigot, several out-of-towners had some screaming reels last week too, and fishermen in the Umkomaas area have had some luck with tuna.

The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board said it had noticed increased dolphin activity further down the South Coast, which is a good sign indicating that the fish are on the way.
“These fish are very unpredictable and have always kept us guessing,” said KZN Sharks Board acting head of operations, Greg Thompson.
“There are always numerous opinions, but one seldom guesses right when it comes to sardines.”
