Scottburgh Wimpy gets the chop

A reliable source has confirmed that the Sheriff has already served the eviction notice.

WIMPY has been evicted from the Scottburgh Beachfront Pavilion and the franchise holders have been told to be ‘out’ by May 15. This will leave Scottburgh’s main tourist node with virtually nothing to attract holiday crowds. No Wimpy. No Phat Boys pub. No Beachcomber clothing shop. All that is left in the Pavilion complex – which cost ratepayers close to R1-m to renovate recently – is a small ice cream shop which, according to AfriForum, has not paid rent for the past three months.

Faurco Investments is reluctant to comment at this stage as they are still frantically trying to negotiate with the Umdoni Municipality. However, a reliable source has confirmed that the Sheriff has already served the eviction notice. “Unless this is sorted out quickly, this could have a knock-on effect for the whole town,” said a concerned businessman.

Municipal manager Xolani Luthuli confirmed at a recent council meeting that the eviction process had been started

and the reason was ‘a breach of the contract which required a long term franchise agreement’. In the April 4 edition of the Mid South Coast Mail, Faurco Investments said it had since received a long term franchise agreement from Famous Brands.

Should the eviction go ahead, a new tender process could take months to conclude, leaving the restaurant premises

standing vacant, along with the pub and Beachcomber shops. Meanwhile, the municipality is currently in the process of changing liaison staffers and did not comment.
