In the limelight

The great Southbroom Lime Cook ‘n Bake-Off takes place at the bowling club this Monday (17th) and everyone is invited to take part or support the event by being there.

The fun cooking compo fund-raiser was initiated by a great harvest of limes in Felicity Robertson’s garden. All you need to do to help raise funds for the Southbroom Conservancy is go and pick the limes from a box at the pro-shop at the golf club and get an entry form at R20. Create your masterpiece at home using limes as the main ingredient and then get it to the bowling club by 11am on Monday to have it judged. Tasked with tasting the concoctions will be Dawne Murray, Sheena James and Peddy Bam. The winning creations will then be sold. For more information phone Felicity at 079 1033524 or Julie Walker at 083 2736840.

Mardi Gras

Although Mardi Gras means ‘Fat Tuesday’, here on the South Coast it means Wednesday street party. The Margate Business Association (MBA) has planned three street parties for the winter holiday season. The dates to save are June 19 and 26 and July 3.

Sad sight

The hamlet of Ramsgate has lost one of its star attractions. The Artists’ Gallery closed its doors at the end of May. Apart from offering a superb collection of art and sculpture works the gallery was a famed meeting place. Visitors would be delighted to chat with some of the artists who would gather around the table on the `stoep’. It is a sad sight to drive past the now empty premises in Marine Drive.
