UPDATE: Protesters deliver memorandum to Umdoni stating demands
The memorandum was handed to the deputy mayor, Sibongile Khati.
UPDATE, 1.30pm:
TRAFFIC is once again flowing as protesters have ended their march to Umdoni Municipality.
A memorandum containing a list of demands was handed over to the deputy mayor, Sibongile Khati by by protest organiser, Khaya Mbambu
The demands included:
– The municipality must stop employing foreigners.
– Electricity is needed in certain areas, as are streetlights.
– RDP houses need to be built and other houses need to be fixed as promised.
– A number of roads need to be fixed and properly tarred.
UPDATE, 11.20am:
PROTESTERS are slowly making their way towards the Umdoni Municipality offices in Williamson Street, Scottburgh.
It is understood that they have until noon today to conduct the march and have opted to congregate at the corner of Airth and Williamson Street, preventing access.
Currently, Williamson Street in the vicinity of Umdoni Municipality, up to the corners of Airth Street and Arbuthnot Street is inaccessible.
Those travelling along the R102 are advised to use either Margaret Avenue or George Crookes Street as a means of entering the Scottburgh CBD.
Police continue to monitor the protest, which has been peaceful thus far.
ORIGINAL STORY:
PROTESTERS have begun gathering in Scottburgh at the sports field opposite the Scottburgh Country Club this morning.
What started as a small group of people, quickly grew and continues to swell as bakkies and trucks bring more people to the field.
The protesters are understood to be from Umzinto and are said to be protesting regarding a lack of housing, electricity and poor service delivery.

According to information, the protesters will start making their way towards the Umdoni Municipality offices shortly.
Members of the Scottburgh Saps and Umdoni Protection Services are monitoring the situation.
