This year marks 39 years ago that the Rotary Club of Durban Umgeni first introduced a team speaking competition for pupils in schools in the Durban area.
The project grew, and in order to spread the competition wider, it was taken over by Rotary International District 9270 and now District 9370. The competition now involves 16 Rotary Clubs and 36 schools throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

Every year schools are invited to enter one team of three pupils from grades 10 to 12. The pupils have to select a subject of their choice, research the subject and present it as a team. Each team must present a problem and collectively suggest a solution to that problem and ideally do this within 12 minutes.
