Tweni Talk: Get involved with crime watch groups

Residents are urged to listen to their dogs - they are great deterrents, but it is imperative to check why they are barking.

VALENTINE’S Day once again proved popular with lawbreakers and there were a few attempted break-ins and suspicious incidents with people trying to gain entry into houses. Kim Jones reported that, just after midnight last Thursday, they had an intruder peeping through her son’s window and trying the door. Her son shouted and more than one ran away.

At 4.51am they came back again and tried yet again to get in. Then they tried to hook things through the window, but fortunately Kim woke up and screamed and her son gave chase. The perpetrators were dressed in dark clothing.

Sacrifice an hour

There was also a daytime break-in in Foxen Road. Apparently the alarm had not been set, so please make a point of setting alarms even if just popping out just for a few minutes. There were reports of many gate motors being tampered with over last weekend. Residents are urged to listen to their dogs – they are great deterrents, but it is imperative to check why they are barking. And remember not to venture out alone if you think it’s unsafe.

Thank you so much to Tweni Crime Watch patrollers, and all security companies who look after Tweni and go the extra mile to keep everyone safe.

We need more people to get involved by giving up one hour a week to assist with patrols.

Join the group

Any Tweni residents wanting to join WhatsApp-driven Tweni Crime Watch, please send an email to tweniwatch@gmail.com giving your name, address, cell phone number, security company details (if applicable) and you will be added to the database and linked to the sector group. This system has been in place for four years now and is still going strong. Thanks to all volunteers, sector leaders, Grant Nevett, Diane Prepok, Cabri van Zyl and Sharon Skene.

Sincere gratitude to Cindy Allan for keeping the database sorted – Tweni has a fair amount of movement with people relocating and it takes extra work.

Thank you too, to Richard Milligan, for assisting with setting up the data capture layout, and last, but not least, grateful thanks to dedicated volunteers Barbara van Blerk, Marion Welsh, Nobby Clark, Marcel Schutgens and Althea Fairley, who monitor the cameras.

Attend the AGM

The next Tweni CPF meeting and AGM is scheduled for next Tuesday (26th) at the Tweni Library at 5.15pm. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.

Take up pottery

Tweni pottery has a new little ‘potter’! Three-month-old Indi Snoek from Holland is visiting grandparents Cilel and Frazer Smith. Little Indi already has her footprint cast in clay.

Still time to attend

Umtentweni Bowling Club held a fun St Valentine’s Day event last Wednesday. Unfortunately the bowls was disrupted by rain, but splendidly dressed in red and white, members enjoyed snacks and drinks to celebrate.

Special snippets

Nellie Davies, Jackie Koekemoer and Moira King took part in last Saturday’s special Valentine’s Day parkrun in very hot, humid weather, but it was loads of fun. Six-year-old Noah Raath was over the moon to win the Valentine’s Day raffle held at Izotsha Primary last week.

Happy birthday

Birthdays wishes go to young Levi Peterson, who turned three on February 16, Roger Lupton Smith (20th), Leon Venter (24th), Moira King and Thelma Gomes (25th).

Remember to send all Tweni news to Leila.
