Tweni Talk: Bylaws are in place for a reason

If you see anyone doing anything that is an infringement of bylaws, please report it immediately.

ANNITA Britz was at Tweni Beach last Saturday and later reported on social media that she had been bitten by a German shepherd dog. The owner of the two German shepherds was a holidaymaker with a GP registration and apparently the dogs were on leashes.

They were however reportedly vicious and suddenly attacked Annita from behind when she passed them next to the kiosk. The owner pulled the dog back, but it should have been reported to law enforcement at 039 6825555 rather than on social media. There are bylaws in place to protect beachgoers. If you see anyone doing anything that is an infringement of bylaws, please report it immediately and ask for an OB number.

Sad tidings

Neville Slade, bar manager at the Bell Bowling Club for 12 years, sadly died last week. Neville earned himself the nickname ‘Jody’ (after racing driver Jody Scheckter) because of the way he drove.

Power problems

Tweni had more than its fair share of electricity woes last weekend the strange thing is it seemed to only have affected parts of the suburb.

So, it definitely cannot be blamed on load shedding. When reporting the outage over the weekend, the complainant was told that technicians only start work at 8am.

People who run home industries are finding it difficult to carry on their little businesses, which are generally in place to supplement meagre pensions.

Ongoing flooding

Debbie Holl of Norwood Road had her double garage flooded yet again due to the fact that the kerbing and drainage has not yet been sorted out properly by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

Beach clean-up

What a difference a morning makes when the Umtentweni Conservancy, with the help of about 30 volunteers, get together on Saturday mornings at the Sandspit – a popular fishing spot on the northern bank of the Umzimkhulu River. The clean-up yielded a huge pile of at least 60 bags of rubbish.

Sincere gratitude

Please folks, as mentioned before, make use of the facilities, picnic spots and beaches, but take your rubbish away with you. Thanks go to Clive Berry (for the skip), Carmen Jesson (for the jumping castle), Sanitech (for the loo), Umthunzi Hotel and Conference, Gabi Hill, journalist Shona Aylward and the South Coast Herald. Volunteers had a lovely braai and Brian Lange provided his famous trips up-river.
