A MAN (29) is under police guard in hospital after allegedly being beaten by the community who claimed he had raped and murdered an elderly woman.
According Port Shepstone Saps, a 68-year-old Amandawe woman was found lying on the side of the road on Wednesday, February 2.

She was declared dead at the scene. Reports indicate that a man was seen near the woman’s body, but that he had fled.
Members of the local community apprehended the suspect the following day and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to police.
The injured suspect was admitted to GJ Crookes Hospital where he will remain under police guard until he is fit to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court.
