Tweni Talk: Cyclists be warned

Seventeen year-old cyclist Matthew Hunt was pushed off his bike and threatened with a knife.

Gill van Heerden urges cyclists to be extra vigilant when out riding. Whilst cycling near Sayidi Farm Stall last Saturday afternoon, a man ran out of the bushes and pushed her grandson Matthew Hunt (17) off his bike and threatened him with a knife. He fought back and grabbed the knife – fortunately he was wearing cycling gloves, but the knife cut through and nicked his hand.

Residents’ meeting

Tweni Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association kick off their first meeting of 2019 next Wednesday (February 6) at 5.15pm at Tweni Library. Topics on the agenda include post office boxes and the cell phone mast proposal. It’s also a great chance to meet the new executive committee.

Despicable act

Your scribe received a call last Saturday about two puppies, about seven weeks old, being dumped at Tweni Library. They are both fawn, but one has dark brown patches. This cowardly and irresponsible act is unacceptable – this is not how one deals with animals. Marie Harley took them to the LSC SPCA and everyone is hopeful that someone will adopt them.

Dumping dilemma

Thanks to Pauline McGovern of Car Plates and Signs for sponsoring two ‘No-dumping’ signs which will be erected at the library. The dumping situation is getting out of hand and culprits are warned that there is a hefty fine if they are caught.

Pesky potholes

Potholes in Tweni are once again a huge problem and feedback is that funds are limited.
