Tweni Talk: Get serious about recycling this year

Collect your clear recycling bags and help save the planet.

TAKE advantage of the recycling program running in Umtentweni – clear bags provided by RNM Municipality are obtainable at JB Licencing at JTV Centre and Homemakers Hardware in Sea Park. Remember to take along proof of residence. Fill the clear bags with recyclable items like glass, tin, paper and plastic, and place them outside on the same day as refuse collections. There is no need to sort items – this will be done back at the recycling depot.

A dedicated truck from the depot will come around to collect, so if you are using this service for the first time, email Jolene.manggos@rnm.gov.za so that she can advise the driver of the additional collection. If you prefer to rather take your recycling down to the bins in Commercial Road, items must be sorted into designated bins. Simply leaving the bags next to bins will earn you a fine.

Sage advice

The Umtentweni CPF’s first meeting for 2019 takes place at the Umtentweni Library on Tuesday, January 29 at 5.15pm. The guest speaker is Glen Preston from Med-Evac, who will discuss the ‘dos and don’ts’ in times of trauma and injury resulting from a home invasion, including crime scene management. Everyone is welcome – it’s a good way to stay in the loop with what’s happening in the area. Refreshments will be served.

Choir kicks off

A few Southport and Umtentweni sewers (or ‘sewists’ as some prefer to be called) attend regularly and beginners are most welcome.

For more information contact Althea at 039 6951898.
