Happy reunions

It was good to see Glynnis Steyn, who now resides near Haenertsburg in the Magoebaskloof mountain area, in Umtentweni for a visit. Welcome back – even if only for a short while. Gloria and Johann Bester spent Christmas in Germany with family and their lovely grandchildren and did not see the sun from December 20th until their return on January 11. Gloria came back home with a terrible cold – hope you get better soon, Gloria.

Avid angler

Eleven-year-old Kyle Solomon spent the last few days of his December holidays doing what he loves most – fishing! He caught a huge dorado weighing in at 8.8kg

Beautify Tweni

Umtentweni Conservancy held its first mini work party of 2019 where volunteers were invited to join them for a few hours to either clear bushes or help pick up litter – anything to beautify Umtentweni.

Umtentweni Conservancy members (from left) Cheryl Aveyard, Liz Willey and Denise Graham get stuck in at the first clean-up of the year held last week.

Last Friday, the group cleared the path to the beach, cut down regrown reeds and litter was picked up in Ambleside Road next to The Spot Backpackers. Contact Liz Willey at 082 3771423 for more information on how to get involved.

Group gathering

The Collectables had its first lunch of the year at Casa Mia Trattoria last Saturday. Josie Stonebridge, former Tweni resident who now lives at Mbango, attended. Josie will celebrate her 95th birthday soon and says that her three sons and daughter Sandy Morris (local Tweni lass) will all be together for the big day.

Lost wallet

A wallet was found close to the Tweni Caltex Garage on Monday morning. Please contact Willa at 079 94995476 if it is yours.

Runners conquer

Moira King, Cabri van Zyl and Di Saunders took part in The Battle of Ramaloo Nandia 10km Challenge in extremely hot weather in Port Shepstone last Saturday. In spite of this, they thoroughly enjoyed the well-organised race and awesome route.

Join the club

If you want to join Tweni’s running group Runderful, contact Moira King at 083 4191211 for more information.

Be wary

There have been a few reports about muggings in the Port Shepstone CBD area, so your scribe advises that you remain vigilant – and try to avoid wearing expensive jewellery.
