Busy week at Margate Country Club

The club got the first business day of the year off to a flying start.

THERE were some good scores at Margate Country Club last week.

The greens are in pretty decent condition and running at a decent pace, thanks to the work put in by pro Andrew Curlewis.

The Wobblers alliance last Wednesday was won by Rob Brien, Dave Boyd, Ernie Janse and Dave Morrison on 88 points.

Runners-up on 85 points were André Henn, Frank Merrill, Louie Gouws and Piet Pretorius.

Third spot went to Cyril Greensmith, Brian Jeffreys, Roy Nolan and Bob Weanie on 82 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Konnie Konrad, Hans Beilhartz, Jan Beilhartz and Rohan Clivers on 75 points.

Last Thursday’s competition was won on 39 points by Robin Shuttleworth.

Nearest pins, sponsored by Margate Pro Shop, were Gary Smith (2nd) and Winstone Msezane (11th).

The monthly business day last Friday was won on 88 points by Jaco van der Wal, Piet Fourie, Johan Neethling and Deon Meyer.

Runners-up on 85 points were Emmanuel Mseleku, Rob Calder, Douw vand der Walt and a ghost (Robin Shuttleworth) on 85 points.

In third place on 84 points were Angus McLachlan, Una McLachlan, Riaan Croucamp and Robin Shuttleworth.

Nearest the pins were Deon Meyer (2nd) and Gavin van Wyk (11th).

It was monthly medal last Saturday, with steady scoring the order of the day.

A division was won by Johan Stoltz on nett 70, with Sydney Shingange next on nett 75.

B division laurels went to Ian Webster on nett 71, by one from John Ford on nett 72.

Michael Downs won the C division on 30 points, with Dolf Willemse next on 28 points.

Nearest the pins for two were Robin Shuttleworth (7th), Ivan Curlewis (12th).

The women’s section was won by Wilna Olkers, followed by Wondra Bothma.

Bronze division honours went to Una McLachlan, with Janes Davies next, then Beryl Williamson in third who had least putts (25).
