Port Shepstone Lions step in to help Girl Guides

A team effort has seen major improvements taking place.

The old Scout/Guide Hall in Mitchell Street, Port Shepstone is slowly being restored to its former glory, thanks in part to the Port Shepstone Lions Club which recently repaired the building’s roof.

Kevin Ross, secretary of the club, said the community project took him and his team four days to complete.

Leader of the Port Shepstone Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers, Jolene Evans said they can’t thank the Lions enough.

Homemade doggy toys for the puppies and strays at the Lower South Coast SPCA kennels were recently donated by (from left) Jason Lepan, Erin Baker, Jenny Baker and Cameron Peace from 1st Margate Cubs.

A camera system for the building was sponsored by South Coast Gate ‘n Door.

“Now we can move forward, and hopefully our issues with the wiring will be fixed next. We also need the windows repaired,” said Jolene.

The Beekman Group sponsored a new gate after the old gate was stolen and the girls have fund-raised to purchase a gate motor.

Generous donations have also been received from the community at large.

Port Shepstone Guides (from left) Mishka Maharaj, Nokukhanya Ncwana, Oyena Nkonzo and Zibusiso Khwani all received the Chief’s Award, the highest award a Girl Guide can receive.
