Hibberdene Happenings: You’re never too old to learn a new language

Charts depicting sign language letters may be obtained from the clinic from next week onwards.

MIZPAH Church held a very successful men’s breakfast last Saturday, with the women being invited as a special treat. The audience was held spellbound as two teachers – Kubashnee Perumal and Peggy Shoba – from St Martin de Porres School in Port Shepstone, gave a most interesting demonstration on the use of sign language.

Former teacher at St Martin’s and now retired, Churchill Hlongwa acted as interpreter, answering any questions the audience may have had. Thanks to the church for presenting yet another thought-provoking, meaningful presentation. Charts depicting sign language letters may be obtained from the clinic from next week.

Bring a friend

Don’t forget the next Hare Krishna Society enlightenment session takes place at the Hibberdene Care Centre this Saturday from 3pm and everyone is most welcome to attend. Supper will be served. Contact Rajen Mahabeer at 082 8362758 for more information.

Festive finale

The Methodist Youth Group holds its year-end service next Sunday, November 25 at 8.30am. This promises to be up to the usual excellent standard and parents, leaders and the children and young people are looking forward to the morning’s entertainment. The group will go into recess for the festive season after the service. Please make an effort to attend – it will be well worth it.

All things Lions

Visit ‘Hattitude’ at the local shopping centre and place your items of non-perishable groceries in the Lions’ food drive box. The food will be gratefully received and will go towards helping the needy.

The Lions are also upgrading their shop at the clinic, providing extra shelves and better access to goods. Remember that the book sale is ongoing and any donations of good used books and clothing are always appreciated. Supplies of Lions’ Christmas cakes are running low, so buy your cake now to avoid disappointment. Cakes are available at the clinic or from Sham Jagaroo at Salon Marguerite.
