Hibberdene Happenings: No more eye clinics until next year

The next one will only be held when services resume after the year-end recess.

DUE to unforeseen circumstances, the last eye clinic of the year has had to be cancelled and the next one will only be held in mid-February when services resume after the year-end recess. This is regrettable, but can in no way be avoided. There will be two more dental clinics, as advertised – today, October 31, and on Wednesday, November 14th, so please book timeously.

Lucky winners

The Lions’ Spring Fair raffle was drawn last week and the lucky winners were: Hendrik Janse van Rensburg (ticket 68), who won a splendid orchid donated by Martin Rautenbach; Fienie Roslee (ticket 61), and Steve Coulson (ticket 24), who both won women’s toiletry gift sets (much to your scribe’s delight!) The normal monthly draw will be decided sometime this week, with results to be published as soon as they become available.

New centre opens

And, still on medical matters, the Madikane Renal and Dialysis Centre has opened its doors in the Marlin Mall. Take advantage of this new facility by phoning the centre at 039 6991162 to find out more about its range of services.

Jill surprises Jan

Jill Whitmore has returned from a fleeting visit to Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, England, to attend the 80th birthday celebration of her elder sister Jan Price, in early October. Jill arrived completely unannounced and the look of sheer surprise on Jan’s face when she saw Jill had to be seen to be believed! A wonderful time was had by all.

Sad reunion

Phyllis Michaelis received a visit from her former husband Peter Michaelis recently. Peter, who hails from Horsham in the UK was in the country for approximately a week to be with his sister Ann Gammage, who recently lost her husband Glynn. Peter returned to England last Friday. Ann and Glynn had lived in Umtentweni for some years and may be known to some readers.

Unfortunately Ann suffered a nasty fall recently and will be staying on with Phyllis for a short while to regain her strength and mobility.

Greener pastures

Among the many celebrations that took place in the wake of the Cell-C Sharks’ victory last Saturday, a bring and braai was held at Blue Waters Pub and Grill to bid farewell to popular bar attendant Gesina van Graan who leaves for Witbank soon. Gesina played an integral part in the development of the pub for the last few years and will be missed by friends and patrons alike. She is wished well in her new surroundings.
