Hibberdene Happenings: Bubble, boil and tuck in

Several potjies vied for first place at last Sunday’s ‘King of the Coast’ competition at Hibberdene Beach Hotel.

A LARGE crowd attended last Sunday’s ‘King of the Coast’ potjie competition at Hibberdene Beach Hotel and a good time was had by all. Several potjies vied for first place, with eventual honours going to the Hoopers Brick and Block team. A number of raffles were drawn during the day and the plates of potjie sold afterwards left everyone feeling thoroughly satisfied, as did the liquid refreshments. Thanks to the sponsors for their generosity and to the public for supporting this fund-raising drive. The Lower South Coast SPCA was the main benefactor on the day.
Weekend markets
All eyes will be on the weather this week, with hopes high that the awful wind will abate before the markets scheduled for the weekend take place. Hopefully the sun will shine brightly on both the Spring Fair and the Mtwalume craft market. The Spring Fair will follow the format of previous years and the community is urged to support both days, as all funds raised will go to Lions’ charities – a very worthy cause.
Both markets will have an irresistible range of goods, so come along and show your wholehearted support. An added bonus is that both events will have live music to enjoy while you browse.
Book for breakfast
Saturday morning (6th) sees men of all denominations gather for a delicious meal and a time of fellowship for only R20 per person. The venue for the monthly men’s breakfast is the Methodist Church, starting at 7am. All men are welcome. Confirm attendance before Thursday (3rd) with either Debbie at 039 6992948 or Louis at 039 6992610.

Get well soon
Janine Jones from the Jolly Roger Fun Pub underwent emergency surgery during the week and is wished a speedy recovery (with no side-effects), while good wishes also go to those not feeling too well at present.
RIP Richard
Sadly Richard O’Neill lost his battle with illness last week and died in Netcare Margate Hotel last Tuesday. Richard was well-known in Hibberdene and had served as principal of Morningside Primary in Durban prior to retiring to the coast. He will be sorely missed by many and will be remembered at a service to be held at the Methodist Church on Saturday morning (6th) at 10am. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Estelle, grandson Luke and other family members.
Champagne moments
Anniversary wishes go to Jean and Ray Perks for October 3, while happy birthday wishes are extended to Taubie Jonker (3rd), Nora Swart (6th), Gideon Strydom and Herbert Meyrick (7th), Curly McDuling (8th), and Fanie Venter (9th).
Don’t forget to keep ‘our Lizzie’ busy with Hibberdene news, snippets and photos.
