School pupil injured in Tweni suspected hit-and-run dies

The 17-year-old was a grade 12 pupil at Port Shepstone High School.

Paramedics from Emergency Medical Services and Med-Evac responded to call concerning a teenage boy found lying at a parking lot at the Umtentweni Waterfront last Saturday at about 7.35pm.

According to Glen Preston of Med-Evac a motorist saw the teenager on the ground and called the police and paramedics.

“When paramedics arrived they found the boy had sustained severe head injuries. He was stablised at the scene and transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition,” said Mr Preston.

On Tuesday this week the 17-year-old, a grade 12 pupil from Port Shepstone High School succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital.

Southport police are urgently requesting the public to please come forward with any information regarding the hit and run that had possibly occurred.

“The teenager was found on the left hand side of the road heading towards Port Shepstone just before the Umtentweni River bridge on the R102 near the Umtentweni Waterfront,” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Zenzele Mpinge.
