From the bowling greens: Mixed Pairs tourney for South Coast

News and results from South Coast bowling clubs.

MIXED PAIRS

The third Lower South Coast 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs Bowls Tournament will be played at Southbroom, Munster, Port Edward and Banners Rest bowling clubs from August 27 to 31.

A full complement of 56 pairs have entered, 78 percent of which are bowlers from bowling clubs other than the four hosting clubs.

Bowlers from far as Pretoria, Gauteng and Durban are travelling to this area, to compete in the tournament.

The tournament will conclude with prize-giving at Port Edward CC on August 31 at around lunchtime.

BANNERS REST

Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips was won by Chris Forward and Vi Pells.

Placed second were Brian and Pam Cole-Cook with Amy Körner and third Gino Alilovic, Jeannette Offer and Darryl Saunders, and the 50/50 board wend to Vi Pells.

Mary Phelps and John Keppler are playing in the Champion of Champions at The Bell next weekend.

The Lower South Coast 2-4-2 mixed pairs will take place from August 27 to 31, with the Tops men’s pairs on Sunday, September 2.

The green will be closed from September 3 for annual maintenance.

HIBBERDENE

Jan and Helene Oosthuizen teamed up with Chris Snyman to win the Suzuki South Coast mixed trips.

Runners-up were Brian Pirie, Silvia Pretorius and Thinus Geyser.

Session prize to Sandy and Doug Shepherd with Glenda Verster.

Bourman Group mixed trips this Friday (24th).

MARGATE BC

The Food Lover’s Market competition was won by Lenie Geyer, Derek McKechnie, Eric Chamier and Ron Vink.

Georgia Spur women’s 2-bowl trips was won by Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo and Winnie Hess.

Runners-up were Gae Gravell, Trixi Smith and Helen Procter.

Session to Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pells and Leoni Booth.

Mugg & Bean 2-4-2- Open next Friday (31st). Social bowls every Sunday at 9am.

MUNSTER

The Sentinel International President’s Day tournament was won by Steve Rennie, Joe Ashworth, and Andreas van der Linde.

Runners-up were Don Saunders, Rob Lyle and Cedric Wilmore, with third place going to Chris Green, Rick Harding and Willie van Jaarsveldt.

Cowshed/Tops men’s pairs winners were Piet Heunis and Rob Payne from Willie van Jaarsveldt and Mike Gower.

Mariners Restaurant open trips winners were Cliff Moakes, Phil Longden and Denise de Witt.

Runners-up were Chris Green, Anthony Card and Lizette Greeff.

NOMADS

Margate BC was the venue for the most recent game, which was sponsored by Cynthia’s Butchery.

Winners were Sheena Absolom, Keith Burke, Anthony Card and Heidi Bracegirdle.

Second place went to Kobus Faber, Dave Slippers and Lindsey Humphries.

The men’s national was won by Danny Terblance and the women’s national by Marie Pick.

Next outing is on September 9, venue to be confirmed.

MARGATE CC

The winners of the JL Panelbeaters men’s fours were Steve Rennie, John Keppler, Aubrey Hood and Andreas van der Linde.

Runners-up were Denzel Massyn, Alan Tyers, Gary Hess and Derek Schorn.

Third prize went to Jokkie van Buuren, Dave Banks, Rob Lyle and Ken Simm.

PORT EDWARD

Chris Green and Val Smith won the Robin Hood pairs last week from Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren.

Second session went to Gawie Bosman and Jenny Sammons.

Tabs in socials on Saturday.

Barry Payn, Leoni Booth, John Keppler and frequent visitor from Banners, Mary Phelps are playing in the Champion of Champions at The Bell this weekend.

SOUTHPORT

Winners of the Suzuki South Coast trips were Bez Bezuidenhout, Brian Pirie and Bruce Hoyer.

Runners-up were Allen Jacobson, Hew Hodgson and Phil Viljoen.

Session prize went to Jan Huygen, Johnny Meyer and Derick Cilliers.

The Umtentweni/Southport Fellowship at Southport on Sunday was won by Umtentweni.

THE BELL

The Jaxx/1st Choice Home Cleaning open trips was won by Brian Rawlins, Linden Wright and Len Rossler.

Second were Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Phil Viljoen.

Club champions Barbara Fernihough and Luke Pohl are wished good bowling in the Champion of Champions this weekend.

No tabs in this Saturday (25th) due to club hosting the Champion of Champions.

Pat Maggs reached the last eight at the All Natal singles.

Orca sponsored trips this Friday (31st).

TWENI

Schooner’s mixed trips was won by Jan Huygen, Nellie Davies and Dennis Schmidt from runners-up Johnny Meyer, Astrid Jackson and Elena Frizelle.

The session prize went to Tony Aveyard, Lyn Coetzer and Mike Findlay.

The Umtentweni/Southport Fellowship at Southport on Sunday was won by Umtentweni.

The South Coast Herald Men’s Pairs was won by Luke Pohl and Ryan Keys from runners-up Johnny Meyer and Mike Findlay. The session prize was won by Keith Mills and Peter Anderson.

VILLAGE

Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 winners were Tony Waters and Glenn Hatfield.

Runners-up were Roy Robertson and Bill Parfitt.

Session prizes went to Leo Niese and Trevor Prinsloo, as well as Denzil Massyn and Gary Hess.

Hyundai mixed drawn pairs/trips winners were Alan Tyers, Eileen Ward and Dave Chambers, from Aubrey Watson and Geoff Oliver.
