Dogs stuffed into bags, dumped outside SPCA

People surrendering their animals are encouraged to make use of the after-hours kennels provided

Staff from the Lower South Coast SPCA were shocked to find two adult dogs and two puppies tied up in bags and dumped outside the front gate of the SPCA’s premises in Uvongo last Sunday morning.

Michael Muller, manager of the SPCA, said the distressed animals had probably left lying in the bags for most of the night.

A suggestion was made on social media that perhaps a sign could be sponsored, pointing out – in several languages if possible – that after-hours facilities were available, and how to use them.

Michael Muller, manager of the Lower South Coast SPCA, encourages anyone not wanting a pet to leave it in their after-hours kennels.

“We appreciate people bringing their unwanted animals to us rather than dumping them somewhere,” he said. “However, we would encourage people surrendering their animals to make use of the after-hours kennels provided.”

Michael Muller, manager of the LSC SPCA, explains that all the cages at the SPCA after hour kennels contain water, a blanket and food.

The procedure is as follows:

1 Put the animal in the cage where there is water, food and a blanket.

2 Once the animal is safely in kennel lock the gate.

3 Fill out documentation (not compulsory).

“Please do the responsible thing and ensure that your animal is safe until our staff can move it into our clinic kennels,” he said.

If you need any assistance,  call the emergency number 083 2226355.

Anyone interested in helping sponsor a sign can contact Mr Muller at 060 502 0421.
