Umtentweni theft suspects caught red-handed and stolen property recovered

No one was at home at the time of the burglaries.

Police officers from Port Shepstone SAPS, Port Shepstone K9 unit and officers from a local security company responded to a report of a burglary in progress in Umtentweni on Wednesday morning and arrested two men. Property believed to have been taken during the burglaries was also recovered.

The suspects led police to two houses in the vicinity and the occupants identified the property as belonging to them.

The gloves and housebreaking implements allegedly used by the suspects to break into the houses in Umtentweni.

Police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum said the residents of the houses in Umdoni and Stapleton Roads had locked up on Tuesday, July 10 and had gone out. “When they returned to their homes the following morning, they discovered that their premises had been burgled. A hammer, pair of pliers and knives were used by the suspects to force open the windows and burglar guard bars to gain entry. Police recovered a flat screen TV, clothing, vehicle accessories, luggage bags, sound equipment and housebreaking implements.”

Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, commended the members for their sterling work in arresting the suspects and recovering the property. “The prompt response by the police and security officers ensured that the suspects did not get away with their booty. I am pleased with their excellent efforts,”she said.
