Margate Moves: Don’t miss these beautiful blooms

Members of the Alfred County Orchid Society will be on hand to answer any questions.

The annual flower show hosted by the Alfred County Orchid Society takes place at the Margate Methodist Church Hall next week.

The expo will be held over two days – July 6 and 7. The exquisite blooms will be on show from 8.30am to 4.30pm on the Friday and from 8.30am to 1.30pm on the Saturday. Members of the society will be on hand to answer queries.

New moon rising

It is a sight to behold – the new moon rising over the ocean – hence the phrase `moonstruck’. Ramsgate Conservancy’s Moondeckers invite the community to join them at Whaledeck Enviro Centre this Thursday (28th) by 5.30pm.

On offer is hearty soup and homemade bread (R50 per person) and you can take along your own liquid refreshments. There will also be a lucky draw.

Fun stuff

As it is holiday season it’s time for the regular Wednesday Mardi Gras. The first takes place in Marine Drive Margate tonight (27th) from 6pm. For more information contact Corrie Wernick at 039 3172202.

There will be two more street parties on July 4 and 11 – same time and place. There’s a dinner/dance at the Azalea Hall – Margate Retirement Village next Saturday (7th).

And that all time favourite musical movie `The King and I’ will be screened at a matinee at the Ronnie Baker Hall at the village on Sunday (22nd) and do diarise `Winter Wonderland’ to be staged at Azalea Hall on July 28th.

Calling golfers

Golfers are urged to support the Southbroom Conservancy’s big fund-raiser, the sponsored golf day. It will be played at Southbroom Golf Club on Saturday, July 14.

The conservancy does amazing work in looking after the town and surrounding area and needs assistance.

Treat in store

If you need the perfect tonic to shake off the winter blues – read on. `Musical Memories’ a concert featuring the talented Hibiscus Choir will be performing at the Ramsgate Lions’ Club’s community centre in Glenmarkie Road this Saturday (30th) at 6.30pm. Cost is R30 and tickets will be on sale at the door. The Lions will be selling chicken burgers and bar facilities are available. The selection of music promises to lift even the most jaded spirits.

Month end social

If it’s the last Friday of the month it’s time to get quizzical and socialise.

Ramsgate Lions Club’s will holds is braai and quiz night this Friday (29th). It takes place at the community centre in Glenmarkie Road from 6pm. Take along some meat for the braai – salads are on sale and a cash bar will be available.

The quiz comprising teams of four players follows after supper. For more information contact Lion Jenny Henry at 083 3098314. Congratulations go to Lion Warren Theron who was inducted as the new president of the club last Saturday. He is wished a successful term leading the small but hard-working pride.

Child Welfare Margate will hold its 65th annual general meeting at Margate Methodist Church next month.

The date to diarise is Monday, July 9 at 2pm. The public is cordially invited to attend.
