Those living in the Bhambayi area were happy that the sports field had been upgraded as they say it was not in good condition thanks to overuse.  The facility was closed five months ago when work commenced.

The surface of the playing field was upgraded, new facilities such as changing rooms and bathrooms have been built, as have a  volleyball and netball court.

Cllr Mqwebu said: “This is more than just a sports ground, this is an important place for the community. Yes, it is where community members come together to practise and play matches, but through those sports it will become a place where people exercise, laugh and build a better community.”

She also appealed to the community to take good care of the sports field. “The truth is, while we may own the land and carry the responsibility to maintain the facilities, they belong to you, the community. I urge everyone to take care of this facility by keeping it clean and safeguarding it against vandalism,” she said.
