Margate Swimming Club rounds off season in style

The youngsters can take a well-deserved break now.

MARGATE Swimming Club Level swimmers have just returned from Sasolburg, having achieved varying degrees of success.

Level 2 and 3 swimmers took part in the annual regional age group gala at the Penny Heyns Pool from April 4 to 6.

All 10 swimmers had great swims and managed personal bests.

In Level 2 boys races, Alexandros Robbertze (14) took home gold in the 50m breaststroke, dropping 5.38 seconds off his best time.

Michel Duarte (16) followed that up with a third place in the 200m freestyle.

In the Level 2 girls races, Alex Labuschagne (9) grabbed a second place in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 100m backstroke in the 16 and under age groups.

Caitlyn Peckham (12) was also in top form, taking silver medals in 50m and 100m freestyle and dropping 5.71 and 3.37 seconds off these races respectively.

Brittney van Vuuren (14) and Ruby van der Merwe (14) fought hard for their placings.

Brittney took bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Ruby dropping 0.57 seconds off her 100m butterfly to place third.

She took 2.38 seconds off her 50m breaststroke to snatch silver and then dropped a whopping 7.92 seconds off her 200m breaststroke to claim the gold.

In terms of the Level 3 swimmers, all three competed in the final heats, but only Jeandré Joubert (16) made it onto the podium, bringing in a hard-earned bronze medal in the 18 and under 200m breaststroke, dropping 8.05 seconds off his previous best time.

This regional age group gala brings the club to the end of the competitive swimming year.
