New pairing comes out tops at Scottburgh GC

The rough machine is up and running and is catching up on its outstanding work, as is the fairway machine.

LAST Wednesday’s beterball Stableford was won by a new pairing of Dave Sirey and Linda Els on 43 points – the same score as Brian Richards and Graham Brown who lost the count-out, Brian sorely missing his five handicap strokes that the computer snaffled.

Completing the podium place were Quinton Richardson and Anton Visagé on 41. There were three two-clubs which were claimed by Dave Sirey, Janet Beckerly and Mick Marriot and the hidden holes have retreated again. Mike Eley, still suffering from cleaning out the ponds, wearily made his way up to captain Shaun Jenkins’ table along with Alan Eriksen to deposit their R10 towards the Stone.

Friday’s seven-pin was cancelled due to the rain. This competition is run every Friday for all and sundry from midday onwards, so start the weekend in style and come along and don’t forget the Friday night supper.

The Halfway/County Group is the sponsor for our monthly medal and alliance for both men and women. Lauren Davey was this month’s woman medalist with a fine score of 70. Runner-up was Pathma Moodley on 72, who pipped Linda Hall into third spot on 74. Pathma also took the least putts prize with just 30 strokes of the flat stick.

The men’s A division gross was won by Flinky Dreyer on 70 with Francois Rossouw taking the nett prize with 72. In the B division Tony Moore had the best gross with 83 and John Mills had the best nett with 71.

The C division is run as an individual Stableford and this month Hans Beuthe had 39 points – nett 66 – to take the C division with Gary Jones second with 34. Hans is the medallist for February.

The only two two-clubs came from the A division winners Francois and Flinky, who donated the proceeds to the ever-growing fund and the hidden holes have taken flight. Dave Sirey led his team of Quinton Richardson, Anton Visagé and Flinky Dreyer up to receive the alliance prize as did Ian Walker with his team of son Gareth, friend Andrew Briggs and Dave Meredith… but to hand over their R10 for you know what.

The captain should have been fined as he teed off on the first with a blue ball – try following that colour in flight. However, he lost it on the third.

Coming up on Wednesday is a betterball Stableford and on Saturday a betterball bonus bogey.

The Sardine Run committee is already hard at work preparing the groundwork for this year’s tournament. All members are asked to get their teams together and letters will be sent out to up-country players to invite them again to this year.

The club will be holding an early St Valentine’s Day lunch on Sunday and on Saturday, February 17, is the club’s fundraiser will be played as a fourball alliance with Geoff Thommasen’s chicken supper to follow. Any locals wishing to come for the supper only, please let the office know for catering purposes.

Colin Moodie is on the mend and is expected home by the end of the month. Erroll Simpkins is not well at the moment and we hope he will soon be ok.

The rough machine is up and running and is catching up on its outstanding work, as is the fairway machine. Thanks to Mike Powell who is standing in for Flinky Dreyer while he is on leave. The water problem has also been repaired and watering will begin soon.
