Water crisis update: Water systems reportedly ‘stable with a few issues’

Melville, Pumula and Umzumbe are still experiencing intermittent supply due to the system not yet having fully recovered.

Here is the latest update from Ugu District Municipality on the water situation in areas to the south, southwest and north.

SOUTH WEST: (UMUZIWABANTU MUNICIPALITY)

All systems in the areas under Umuziwabantu Municipality (in terms of water and sanitation services) are stable.

NORTH: (UMZUMBE AND UMDONI MUNICIPALITIES)

Water systems in this area are stable, with a few issues which at this point have not resulted is the interruption of services. These are being attended to by technicians.

SOUTH: (UMZUMBE AND RAY NKONYENI MUNICIPALITIES):

UMTENTWENI:

The emergency shutdown of supply yesterday to replace aged infrastructure at the Port Shepstone Golf Course has yielded positive results for the reinstatement of water supply in the Umtentweni area.  One or two streets might be experiencing low pressure at this point, but this should be sorted during the day as levels of the supply reservoir improve.

SEA PARK AND SOUTHPORT:

Should be receiving water by now and the supply system for these areas has improved since the shutdown. Also, some parts of Sea Park and Southport might be experiencing low pressure, due to the system not yet having fully recovered.

MELVILLE, PUMULA AND UMZUMBE

These areas are still experiencing intermittent supply due to the system not yet having fully recovered. It will be the high-lying areas that will still be experiencing intermittent supply.Full restoration of these areas is anticipated later today as levels of supply systems improve.

ALBERSVILLE AND PORT SHEPSTONE CBD

Some parts of Albersville and the Port Shepstone CBD are experiencing intermittent supply or no water. It has been discovered that there is less water leaving the supply reservoir of these areas. Technicians are currently troubleshooting to find the cause.

Relief supply is being provided via water tankers.
