Margate Moves: Join the carol singers

If it is December then it is Carols by Candlelight time. Everyone is invited to two special services.

The Mbizane Mission Church in Bushy Vales hosts its service at the historic church on Saturday, December 16 at 6.30pm. The church will be giving a party to the needy children in the area and requests service-goers to take along a wrapped present for a child aged one to 15 years and to please put a sticker on the gift stating whether it is for a boy or girl and the age. The Ramsgate Lions Club will hold its Carols by Candlelight service at the centre court of the Hibiscus Mall in Margate on Tuesday, December 19 at 6pm.The Lions appeal to the community to take along a toy or an item of non-perishable food to be given to Santa who will hand it over to underprivileged children. More music

Traditional Christmas songs and carols will be on the programme for the Hibiscus Choir’s annual Christmas Concert.

It takes place at the Ramsgate Lions Club’s Community Hall (the old bowling club) in Glenmarkie Road on Friday, December 8 at 6pm.

The choir received high praise for its first concert staged at the Ramsgate Retirement Village’s hall last Wednesday, so patrons are in for a treat at its supper theatre show.

Wine and dine 

‘Showstopper Christmas’ featuring the talented singer Anne-Marie Clulow and award-winning dancer Kevin Ellis will be staged at the Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village on December 9 at 6pm.

Pack a picnic supper and liquid refreshments and enjoy an evening of sparkling entertainment.

Tickets cost R70 per person and are on sale from the village’s admin or RAC offices. Phone 039 3125000 to book your table for a fabulous evening of song and dance and merry-making.

Cool sounds

The Gentry, an acoustic rock outfit who love performing music by The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond and Ed Sheeran, will be performing at Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate, this Saturday (2nd) from 6pm.

The local group is fast gaining a good following on the South Coast and has received much acclaim for their renditions.

Get down and dirty

Everyone is encouraged to become a litter-buster. Get out your garden gear and head down to Margate beachfront next Saturday (9th) from 9am for the Big Beach Clean-up. Take along your own gloves, the municipality will provide bin bags. For more details about this joint business/community project, phone Steve Herbst at 082 4531133.

AGM time

The Southbroom Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association will hold its annual general meeting at Southbroom Golf Club on Saturday, December 23 at 9am.

The chairman’s report will highlight the work undertaken by the committee throughout the year and ratepayers are urged to attend to find out what has been happening in the town.
