WARNING: Strictly no alcohol allowed on Scottburgh main beach this festive season

Police have stressed that by-laws will be strictly enforced.

Scottburgh police are stepping up to make sure everyone gets to enjoy the town’s famous beachfront over the festive period.

Officers are planning on increasing their visibility and adopting a zero tolerance approach.

Crime prevention strategies are in the process of being implemented, and beachgoers are warned that there will be roadblocks throughout the area as the festive season approaches.

Some roads will be closed on specific days to control access to the beaches; and random stop and search operations as well as vehicle searches will be conducted to prevent liquor, drugs and other contraband being taken onto the beach.

“We have arrested motorists for drunken driving and spinning their vehicle’s tyres on several occasions and will certainly come down hard on perpetrators this festive season,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Scottburgh SAPS has already held planning sessions with their crime-fighting counterparts at both provincial and municipal level, and say they are now ready to enforce the bylaws which will allow locals and visitors alike to enjoy the beachfront safely.

Drownings are a great concern, particularly at this time of year and parents are reminded make sure their children are adequately supervised at all times.

Parents are urged to never leave children alone near water, especially younger children who swim in estuaries, dams and rivers during the school holidays.

Members of the public are urged to only swim in designated areas where lifeguards are available.

Most importantly, remember that alcohol and swimming do not mix!
