Local fitness model heads to South African Bodybuilding Championships to compete this Sunday

Jessie Toweel will be flying the South Coast flag high at IFBB South African Bodybuilding Championships in Johannesburg. Good luck Jessie!

JESSIE Toweel (45) of Uvongo is feeling confident and positive about representing KwaZulu-Natal at the IFBB South African Bodybuilding Championships in Witbank this Sunday.

Jessie finished in the body fitness category in fourth place earlier this month at the IFBB KZN Provincial Bodybuilding Championships at the Playhouse Opera Theatre in Durban.

I’m going in at my best condition I have ever been, so whatever the outcome on Sunday is, I know I have given it my all. It’s all about trial and error and always room for improvement – Jessie Toweel

Catching up with the Herald, Jessie, who a personal trainer at Superbodies Port Shepstone, she said she has been training to be a bodybuilder for three years, has competed four times and Sunday’s SA Championships will be her fifth competition.

An upbeat Jessie said she is on six percent body fat and her gains are better than she expected.

Bodybuilding is my passion, my happy place is the gym. I work in the gym and I have my playtime in the gym, it keeps me sane and out of trouble.

So how does Jessie get into perfect shape?

She explained that when she is prepping for a competition she basically lives on chicken, eggs, spinach, fish, broccoli and oats.

She admitted the sacrifices she makes whilst prepping are difficult, with ‘no happy food and no social life, as there is too much temptation when she is out and about with friends’.

I do love ‘happy food’ and I love to let me hair down every now and then, but for three months before competition time all that is taboo. It is hard but it is my passion and my love for the sport makes it a little easier.

So what is her training schedule like?

Jessie said she trains about four hours a day from Monday to Friday and two hours a day on Saturday and Sunday.

“Only because the gym is only open in the mornings on the weekend,” she added, jokingly.
