Medical specialists gather in Margate to discuss burns

A RANGE of speakers shared their knowledge at a recent burns symposium held by Medi-Coast Clinic in Margate.

Nursing staff, pediatricians, trauma doctors and surgeons met  to discuss the treatment of burn wounds in totality, as the correct treatment of burn victims is of utmost importance to prevent disfiguration, contraction and scarring.

At the burns symposium are (from left) Sister Leoni Rowan, Doctor Nikki Allorto (president of Burns South Africa) and Sister Elsje Burger.

Elsje Burger, wound care and stomal therapist of Medi-Coast Clinic, said that most burns are sustained with hot water and mostly by accidents in and around the house.
