Margate Moves: Making marvellous musical memories

Take along your own hamper of festive fare and liquid refreshments for an evening of jazz, pop and instrumental numbers with a few Christmas carols as well.

 

FOR more than 30 years Margate Retirement Village residents have been privileged on the entertainment front with many wonderful shows having been staged at both the Ronnie Baker and Azalea halls.

Talented Mari Webster who has starred, produced and directed some of the delightful productions recently put together a nostalgic, musical journey comprising much-loved numbers from previous shows.

`Thanks for the Memory’ a supper theatre offering at Azalea Hall featured song, dance and even a little bit of comedy.

Singers, Friedhold Redinger, Sue Neilson, Jade Smith, Nils Potgieter and Mari who gave fine renditions of pop, jazz, classical, contemporary and hits from musicals were joined on stage by musicians Rob Vogt, Jurgen Human, Rob Henry and Ian Jones as well as dancers from the In Motion Dance Academy and the brave staffers from the Village. Marvellous musical memories were remade.

Special celebration

Get out your favourite fascinator and head off to Southbroom Golf Club on Women’s Day (August 9) from 3pm for a rather stylish high tea and fashion show.

On the menu are dainty profiteroles, mini cakes, cream scones, shortbread slices, chocolate truffles, vol au vents, croustades and a selection of sandwiches along with tea, coffee and bubbly.

Guests also stand the chance of winning great giveaway prizes.

All about the beat

The acclaimed duo `Saxadelic’ comprising saxophonist Vicky de Villiers and keyboard whiz Calli Thomson will entertain at a `Christmas in July’ supper theatre offering at Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village on Saturday, July 29th.

Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Deepest sympathy

Condolences are extended to the family of Wendy Longhurst who died on Monday this week after a long illness. She was a dedicated community and church worker and will be missed by her family and friends.
