UPDATE/Watch: Lander’s Farm forest fire allegedly set by copper thieves

Authorities have been notified of the blaze.

UPDATE:

THIRTY-odd people from Lander’s Farm are currently battling a blaze opposite the R102 in Park Rynie.

On scene, Bryn Carbutt who is also fighting the flames claims that the fire was set near the river by people burning electrical cabling in order to get through to the copper – which would then be sold at local scrap yards.

It is not known where the suspected  thieves have fled to.

The Umzinto Fire Department has been notified of the blaze. Check out the pictures below as well as some video footage.

A FIRE which is believed to have started earlier this afternoon is currently tearing through the forest opposite the R102 in Park Rynie.

It is not known whether authorities have been alerted.
