Margate Moves: If you have time to spare…

For the past few weeks members of the Hibiscus Amateur Theatrical Society (Hats) have been rehearsing for a very special show.

CHILD Welfare Margate invites everyone who has the interest of children at heart to attend its 64th annual general meeting. It takes place at the Margate Methodist Church Hall this Monday, July 17 at 2pm.

If you have a little time to spare show that you care by assisting the society.

Art by the Sea, the coast’s longest established art club will hold an exhibition of members’ work next month.

The talented artists will show off their best pieces at the Margate Art Museum and a range of exciting work will be offered for sale at reasonable prices.

The exhibition opens on August 3.

Bet on fun

If you enjoy having a little flutter on the horses then make sure you book your seat at South Coast Hospice’s fun fund-raiser.

The association will hold its annual Donkey Derby at the Margate Bowling Club on Saturday, July 29 at 6pm. Cost is R100 per person which includes a two course meal and a cabaret show along with the racing.

Street party

Southbroom Conservancy will host the Southern Shoreline Challenge from Ramsgate’s Whale Deck to Marina Beach on Sunday, July 23.

Registration is from 7am and the walk starts at 7.30am. The cost is R20 per person and breakfast rolls and coffee will be on sale at R30. All proceeds will go to the conservancy.

Ready for the ‘amazing race’ car rally, hosted by the Ramsgate Lions at the Community Centre last Saturday are (from left) Nadine Gale, Christyne Gale and Jasmin Mostert of Margate.

Another fund-raiser for the conservancy is the sponsored golf day. This year’s event at Southbroom Golf Club takes place next Saturday, July 15. To book tee-off times contact the Pro-Shop.

Their latest production `Christmas in July’ will be staged at the Ramsgate Retirement Village on July 24 – phone 039 3126342 and at Margate Country Club on July 30th. Phone 039 3120571 to book. Proceeds from the shows will be donated to the SPCA.

Festive celebration

Talented saxophonist Vicky de Villiers and keyboard whiz Calli Thomson collectively known as `Saxadelic’ will entertain at a `Christmas in July’ supper theatre offering at Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village on Saturday, July 29th.

Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Take along your own hamper of festive fare and liquid refreshments for an evening of jazz, pop and instrumental numbers with a few Christmas carols as well.

Tickets cost R55 per person and are on sale from the RAC or admin offices at the village. Phone 039 312 5000 for more information.
