Man shot dead on N2 near Scottburgh

Two people died on the freeway last weekend, and another was critically injured.

IN what are believed to be two separate incidents, two  people were found dead on the N2 last weekend.

Both Scottburgh and Umkomaas SAPS are investigating these deaths, as well as a third case in which a man was found in a critical condition.

Shortly before 8pm last Saturday night, paramedics from ER24 responded to a call-out on the N2 southbound near the Umgababa off-ramp, where a man had been shot.

The man was found lying near his vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene.

When paramedics left minutes later, the came across a man who had been struck by a vehicle on the opposite side of the N2.

“The critically-injured 33-year-old  was treated for multiple fractures and abrasions before being taken to a nearby hospital,” said ER24 spokesman, Werner Vermaak.

There was no vehicle at the scene.

Last Sunday morning there was a visible police presence at the N2 Scottburgh off-ramp, where former Umkomaas SAPS Warrant Officer Jeeva Pillay was found dead in his vehicle.

A case of culpable homicide has since been registered for investigation.

The 65-year-old’s vehicle was found against an embankment. He was the only occupant.

Forensic investigations were conducted on the vehicle and a post mortem will reveal the cause of the death.
