Margate Moves: Big bazaar coming up

MARGATE NG Church’s congregants have been hard at work over the past few weeks preparing for the annual big bazaar. This year’s event takes place at St Mike’s beach on Saturday, July 8 from 9am to 1pm.

Fabulous fair fare will be on offer as well as games such as tombola and fishing for prizes, to keep young and old folk entertained and a wide variety of handmade arts and crafts. As usual the popular White Elephant stall will have something to tempt someone.

Yarn bomb

If you missed World Knit in Public Day at the Hibiscus Mall last Saturday – do not despair – there’s another yarn bombing day coming up, The venue is the Ramsgate Whale Deck this Saturday (17th) from 10am.

Take along your wool or yarn, knitting needles or crochet hooks and go along and join the yarn bombers. For more information contact the organiser Hazel Voice at 083 4479261.

Take a dive

Have you ever wanted to jump out of a plane and skydive? You are in luck as the Johannesburg Skydiving Club will visit the South Coast next month. So if you weigh less than 110kgs head up to Margate Airport between July 6 and 9 where you can experience the thrill of skydiving. No comprehensive ground school is needed for a tandem skydive. A highly qualified instructor will brief you before the jump and you will wear a strong passenger harness which will be connected to the instructor. To book phone 073 1456017.

Beautiful blooms

Margate Methodist Church Hall will literally be blooming next month. It is the venue for the Alfred County Orchid Society’s annual show.

Exquisite blooms will be on show on Friday, July 7 and Saturday July 8 from 8.30am. For details contact Barbara at 039 3171992.

Stringing along

The Kayser Quintet will perform at the next Classics at Riverbend concert. It takes place at the Riverbend Conference Centre on Friday, June 30 from 6.30pm. The quintet will play string quartets by Beethoven and Shostakovich and there will be a special piano performance by David Smith.

A free wine tasting, starting at 5.45pm, will precede the show. Tickets cost R100 and are on sale at the crocodile farm shop.

Choral concert

The Hibiscus Choir, under the baton of Mari Webster and accompanied by Robin Ransome, will stage its concert `Show Stopper’ next Saturday (24th).

Ramsgate Lions’ Community Hall is the venue for the final of the choir’s four performances. The curtain goes up at 6pm for 6.30pm. Hamburgers will be on sale and there will be a cash bar. Tickets, at R30 per person will be on sale at the door.

Music on the menu

Mellow music and a moreish supper were recently on the menu at Southbroom Golf Club. The delightful duo of Mama and Papa James entertained patrons at what is hoped will become a regular event at the club. After tucking into a delicious three-course meal patrons took to the dance floor or sang along to the fabulous sounds.

Och aye

Mark July 1 on the calendar if you are ready for an afternoon of food, fun and whisky-tasting. The South Coast Caledonian Society holds its belated Burns Nicht function at Cafe Munro at midday.

Tickets at R90 per person are on sale at the Elna Shop at the Shelly Centre.
