Anglers exchange rods for drivers at Southbroom

There are always a lot of laughs when the Tuna boys come to town.

TUNA Angling Club members took to the fairways at Southbroom last Sunday for the annual fun golf day.

Playing an alliance scramble the team of Craig Mitchell, J Chapman, Glen Smith and Tino Kankowski ‘hooked’ first place on 115 points.

P Govender, C Moodley, D Pather and P Kandasamy were second on 113, on a count out from Kyle Pride, Rory Mannix, Brian Mannix and Tiege Doring.

Gavin Sole, Graham Sole, Keagan Burton and Peet du Preez were fourth on 109 points, followed by John Pinnoy, Greg Pinnoy, Bones Coertzen and Justin Naidoo (108 points) in fifth.

Ashoo Singh, Preggie Perumal, Sharms Govender and Rishen Govender (107 points) finished sixth followed by Ryan Ringo, Eddie Ringo, Daryl D’Arcy and Paul Tedder.

On Wednesday the women played for the Pam Quarmby Trophy.

There was a terrific turnout and playing an alliance format, the honours went to Irene Schanda, Lorraine Cook, Sandy FitzGerald and Michelle Davies on a score of 99 points.

Allyson Thomas, Shelley Myers, Rene Matthew and Jeanne Powell were second on 97 points.

The men’s alliance competition was won by Gary Purtell, Malcolm Greenland, Dave Page and Ross McKay on 96 points.

Errol Amm, John Fox, Gerald Fitzgerald and Tilly Nel were second on 94 points, followed by Lance Marshall, Roger Hissey, Roy Deakins and John Lloyd with 89 points.

It seems hard to believe that a year has passed since last year’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge.

But it has and last Saturday, Southbroom golfers, playing in three divisions, took part in the individual Stableford tournament.

Best dressed were the Gayridge Poultry Farm team of (from left) Billy Lorenzo, Bruce Cunningham, Jon Caple and Richard Mills.

Women

A-division – 1 Rene Matthew 29 points.

B-division – 1 Sandy Fitzgerald 40 points, 2 Mari Fielden 36 pts, 3 Eileen Neilson 35 pts.

C-division – 1 Julie Walker 34 points, 2 Meryl Chambers 34 pts, 3 Heleen Hissey 31 pts.

Men

A-division – 1 Malcolm Greenland 42 points, 2 Mike Anthony 36 pts, 3 Gavin Sole 36 pts.

B-division – 1 Bob Clark 41 points, 2 Dave Neilson 36 pts, 3 Guy Wilson 36 pts.

C-division – 1 Tony Westoby, 2 Paul Lawson 42 pts, 3 Richard Mills 40 pts.
