Seniors tennis sortie a success

A trip to the USA beckons for Raj Naganna.

FOUR South Coast tennis stalwarts did battle in the Seniors Interprovincial tennis tournament in the Southern Cape.

Hartenbosch was the central point with matches also played at Klein Brak, Mossel Bay and surronding towns, to accommodate the 130 players from all over the country, playing in various age groups.

Local players selected for the KwaZulu-Natal team were Ralph Burls and Raj Naganna in the 70+ team (their partners were Lesley Vermaak and Trish Doyle from Durban and Kloof).

Their team were narrowly beaten into third place by North West after a professional 10 point tie-break.

Gules Solottolo and Rod Hackland played in a lower age group. Rod’s team won their division and Gules won all his singles matches.

Raj rose to the occcasion and played very well winning most of his singles matches and doubles with Ralph.

This will improve his national ranking and he should be selected to play in the World Veterans Champs to be played in America later this year.

Raj is on his way to Port Elizabeth (at the time of writing) to play in the Eastern Cape Seniors, which takes place from June 2 to 5.

Ralph was given an award for being over 80 and playing all his matches in the 70 age group.
