IF we have a wet race this weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix at the circuit De Catalunya it will not only make life very interesting but equalise the potential of the cars on the grid.
It is time for some rain to give everybody a chance once again as well as putting Ferrari and Mercedes under pressure from people like Max Verstappen in his Red Bull.
All that he and teammate Daniel Ricciardo need is a little bit of wet assistance to bring them under the full spotlight with Merc and Ferrari on the plain in Spain.
Traditionally Barcelona, at the beginning of the European season, brings with it a host of new developments on the cars and I am sure that this will happen again this weekend.
We therefore might well see some cars advancing or retreating from their previous order of merit.
It all makes for interesting racing and great excitement.
Kimi Raikkonen, who at the moment is virtually fighting for his long term Grand Prix life at Ferrari, is the holder of the lap record at Catalunya set way back in 2008 in his normally aspirated Ferrari (time 1m 21.67s).
It will be interesting to see whether this time gets broken and by whom.
Verstappen drove the race of his life to win here last year and will be all fired up to do well again.
Can Valtteri Bottas do it again this weekend or is it teammate Lewis Hamilton’s turn or are the Prancing Horses going to hold the Mercs at bay via Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.
If it does rain in Spain then we could see others such as Felipe Massa in his Williams, the Force India boys, Sergio Perez and fast improving Esteban Ocon, also in the limelight.
McLaren will have to answer their own story race by race as they desperately try to put their Honda powered car back on the map. I would expect Fernando Alonso, however, to be brilliant in the wet.
The other Spaniard, Carlos Sainz, could also spring a surprise in his Toro Rosso.
Qualifying on Saturday is at 2pm and the race on Sunday starts at 2pm.
