Zimasa in the Zone: Bruised, battered and beaten

No exceptions, no excuses ... Just Stop Rape Now.

JUST yesterday, a girl with a bright future was robbed of enjoying the full benefits and joy of being a child.

Today, somewhere, a child is being molested by someone they trusted.

And tomorrow, a ‘man’, somewhere in the world, will deny an innocent child their right to say ‘NO!’.

Why do men rape? Why do they exercise their powers on powerless people?

Probably no-one can ever give an accurate answer because no answer could ever give a reason good enough to justify such actions.

Perhaps we are too busy trying to ‘save’ the world from things that don’t matter and we neglect the painful things that affect those we love.

April is child abuse awareness month and I haven’t seen the country uniting and marching against rape and child abuse.

Why?

Is it because it hasn’t affected you, your child or a relative?

A four year old boy was raped by u-Malume (his school transport driver).

Signs that he was abused were there, but sadly his mom ignored them because she thought he was just being silly.

That was until he started getting sick and sores broke out around his lips.

Although she took him to doctors, who gave him medication, it was only after she realised the medication wasn’t helping that she got the shock of her life!

“Promise me you won’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you because if you do u-Malume will kill me,” said the innocent boy to his mom, in agony.

It was only after she promised to SHUSH that her son told the story of what transpired every day on his way home from school.

“Whenever I complained about the pain, he told me to take it like a man and that the pain was only temporary.”

Just how safe are children with those meant to care for them?

It might not be your child, but the fact that it’s happening to someone else’s should be enough for us to stand up.

I just have one request: spare a moment and pray for all rape victims, pray for all those who are abused and beaten daily, pray for those who can’t speak to break the silence and maybe, just maybe, you’ll play your part in the change that is really needed in this country.

My thoughts? “Oh Lord we have sinned, forgive us all but don’t punish the children who know nothing about the evils of this world.”
