UPDATE: Water supply systems are recovering – Ugu
Municipal technicians are prioritising the areas which still do not have water in order to ensure normal supply resumes as soon as possible.
A STATEMENT issued Ugu District Municipality today says that water supply has been restored to most of the areas in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality affected by the total shutdown of the Bhobhoyi Water Treatment Works on February 21.
These areas included the coastal stretch from Hibberdene to Ramsgate and some inland areas, including Gamalakhe, Murchison and Bhobhoyi.
“The municipality’s technicians worked around the clock implementing corrective measures to resuscitate the supply systems and reinstate normal water supply.

“A positive percentage of recovery was reached yesterday evening. However, the high lying areas of Margate Ext 3 and Gamalakhe have not been yet (been) restored. Our technicians are prioritising these areas to ensure normal water supply resumes as soon as possible,” read the statement.

The statement continued:”We are continuously monitoring all supply systems to ensure full recovery of all reservoir levels and give all communities uninterrupted water supply. We have since suspended the planned shutdown at the plant until the system is fully restored. Consumers will be informed timeously when the shutdown resumes.”
