Firearm and ammo recovered in Hibberdene

The men face charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and the possession of ammunition without a license.

A FIREARM stolen in Bizana, Eastern Cape in 2013 was recovered by police in Hibberdene on Wednesday last week.

Police recovered the stolen firearm – from which the numbers had been removed – and seized ammunition.

Three men have been arrested and face charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition without a license.

Police officers from the Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit, were conducting an investigation which led them to look for a vehicle in Port Shepstone.

They soon spotted the vehicle driving towards Hibberdene.

“With the assistance of Port Shepstone K9 unit, Sergeant Mark Banjo, Sergeant Ronald Cwele, and other law enforcement officers, they managed to stop the vehicle at the Hibberdene traffic lights,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

After searching the vehicle, an unlicensed firearm, a Glock 9 mm pistol with some rounds were found.

Three men all aged 43, were arrested and taken into custody.
