Learn to help stranded sea animals

KwaZulu-Natal Marine Animal Stranded Network is holding a public workshop

LEARN how to provide stranded marine animals with vital first aid at a workshop for anyone interested in this subject.

It is being hosted by representatives of the KwaZulu-Natal Marine Animal Stranded Network who will give nature lovers information about how to deal with any stranded dolphins, seals, whales, penguins, turtles, birds and whale sharks they might find on our beaches.

The public workshop takes place at Blue Ocean Dive Resort in Reynolds Street, Umkomaas on February 4 from 9am to 3pm. There is no charge and anyone may attend. If you would like to be there email your name to jennifer.olbers@kznwildlife.com before February 1.

Fortunately for the distressed creatures that wash up on our shore, there is a close collaboration between various organisations, collectively calling themselves KwaZulu-Natal Stranding Network, that can assist them in our province. This organisation, which operates without funding, comprises trained and dedicated individuals who work together to ensure that each stranded animal is given the best possible care.

It comprises Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, uShaka Sea World, CROW and other animal welfare organisations.

If you find a stranded animal on a beach, contact the KwaZulu-Natal Stranding Network by telephoning the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife 24-hour hotline, at 083 3806298 or uShaka Sea World at 031 3288222 during office hours or at 031 3288060 after hours and over weekends and public holidays.
