YOU can help fight crime

Police urge the public to be more aware of their surroundings and keep an eye out for ‘suspicious looking’ strangers or unknown vehicles.

WITH the ever-present threat of crime, the police urge you to be more aware of your surroundings and to keep an eye out for ‘suspicious looking’ strangers or unknown vehicles.

There have been a number of crimes in Scottburgh central and Freeland Park in particualr recently that are of concern to the Scottburgh SAPS.

“Our Crime Information Management Analysis Centre (CIMAC) has indicated that information provided by complainants in the case dockets and the modus operandi being used suggest that a group of at least three criminal has been active in both areas since the beginning of the festive season,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Scottburgh SAPS Crime Intelligence were able to uncover the identity of one suspect, who is known to investigators and is believed to have been on the run from police for the past several weeks. “It is only a matter of time before he finds himself behind bars,” said Capt Pandarum.

The targeted areas are currently under surveillance as Scottburgh SAPS have sent out undercover police officials. “There has also been increased police visibility, with additional deployments and support from the Umzinto K9 unit as well,” said Capt Pandarum.

A few precautionary measures you can take:

* Ensure that your alarm system is activated when leaving the house or before bed.

* Do not leave doors unlocked or windows open as this is to a criminal’s advantage.

* Do not disregard a dog’s bark. Dogs often detect the presence of an intruder on your premises.
