‘We run this town’

The new club is committed to the development of local athletes.

UGU Athletics Club, a new running club, is the latest addition to the Port Shepstone area.

A group of local residents banded together to form the club out of a desire to make running as a professional sport accessible to a wider community, especially in the greater Port Shepstone area.

The members, comprising some very experienced local runners, have been meeting weekly for the past two months to get club registration with KZN Athletics under way.

UAC is currently being steered by Pardon Mathebula as chairman and Raj Naganna as vice-chairman.

The club is committed to the development of local athletes.

Numerous studies show that running and walking are beneficial for both physical and mental health.

It is hoped that the club’s emergence will inspire and assist the community to better health and well-being.

A standing committee for walkers is planned as one of the club’s initiatives.

In the words of Raj Naganna, there is a need for people to ‘rediscover their health’.

The group is thankful to RA Engar Primary for the use of its premises.

UAC plans to host its official launch in early December and will be ready for new membership in January 2017.
