Harding is a crime ‘hotspot’

The businessman was shot in the leg.

POLICE are concerned with the number of hijackings and robberies near Harding.

Earlier this week a businessman from the Eastern Cape was robbed of a large sum of money while driving through Harding on his way to Durban.

Four gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, forcing him to stop.

He was robbed at gunpoint and the robbers then fled. The businessman was shot in the left leg.

“The number of business people who have been hijacked or robbed while en route to purchase stock over the years is of great concern to the police,” said police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“Officers of the Port Shepstone Highway Patrol will be on high alert to see that no motorists are targeted. However, the SAPS is unable to provide any special escort services, ” said Major General Agnes Nxamagele.

Police also advised business people to keep their money safely deposited in a bank and use bank cards or cheques to pay for purchases whenever possible.
