ORIGINAL STORY:

SHATTERED pieces of glass now litter the scene where a Gladiator security guard was shot.

Shortly after midnight last night, the sound of gunshots woke residents in Scott Street, Scottburgh.

It is not yet known if the incident was as a result of an attempted hijacking or if the guard was responding to a call-out.

After being shot, the guard managed to get back into his vehicle and drive to the Scottburgh police station, from where he was taken to hospital.

He is in a serious but stable condition.

“The first shot woke us up. There must have been about six shots in total,” said someone who lives nearby and who reported the shooting to the police.

While the caller was speaking to the police officer,  the police woman spotted the wounded man entering the station shortly.

Police are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Task Team on 039-9781900/9918.

Gladiator Security was approached for comment but none was received at the time of writing.
